Citronella Ants

Citronella Ant Pest Elimination Richmond VA
Citronella Ants

How to identify Citronella Ants:

Citronella Ants, also known as Moisture Ants, have a yellowish color to them. If they get squished they give off a smell much like a lemon. That is how they get their name - Citrus turns into "Citronella." These ants like to make their home in most places like your basement, crawlspaces, under rocks and logs or in moist ground. Citronella Ants, along with many others, also create mounds when they dig. If you have a water leak causing a moisture problem, these ants will take that as a welcome sign and move right in. Your best chance to see one of these ants is when a mated winged ant is flying in search of a new home.

What do Citronella Ants eat?

You may not spot these ants as often as other ants because they like to snack on the roots of plants. They do like sweet food, like most ants, so if you do have some sweets out they could make an opportunistic meal out of it.

How do Citronella Ants get into my home or business?

They generally fly right in. This could be through an open window or they may land on your house and then crawl in through any hairline crack they can find. They will settle near a point of moisture and start a new colony.

How do I get rid of Citronella Ants?

To get rid of Citronella Ants you will have to destroy the nest. To prevent them from coming back in the future you will have to remove the source of the moisture and any access points. We will be happy to help be your "ant solution," or any other pest control solution, for that matter! Give us a call right away!
